
"A prodigy of instinct to the limits of the human possibilities",
with these words Enzo Ferrari describes the incredible driving
technique of Nuvolari in the curves, as it can be read in the biography.
This photo, taken at the 11th cup of Consuma (12 october 1930) explain
clearly the drive of the mantuan in the curve: the car is all to the inside,
the left wheel skims the cliffs frightening and covers the curve
outside from the natural road-bed. At the same time the posterior skids
allowing the Alfa Romeo 6C-1750 GS to introduce to the successive
rectilinear straight, ready for the acceleration.
This inimitable style demonstrates that Nuvolari was not only a driver
with an extraordinary courage, but also that he had, above all, a
technique and a precision higher than the other drivers. Even if
for the common people it did not seem possible, it was a
risky but also "calculated" driving.
When Nuvolari ran the spectators reached the more spectacular curves
in order to see him in action. From a privileged position the
gentleman on the right observes astonished the wheel, in the wait
of the impact...
