1948, the Mille Miglia: the last great adventure of the "flying mantuan".
The Ferrari 166 S of "Nivola" is eavily damaged: in this photo we see
that the bonnet and the left mudguard lack. The mechanic of Nuvolari isn't
full visible: also his seat lacks. Moreover the hinge of the leafspring is
damaged. The car resists to the terrible rhythm of the Champion until
Villa Ospizio, neighbor of Reggio Emilia, then the hinge yields.
Canestrini, journalist, writes on the newspaper: "...in Reggio Emilia all ended
and there was nothing to make. Nuvolari came down fro the car, assessed of
of the impossibility to repair the damage, not cursed. He asked only
a bed in order to rest. And the 15th Mille Miglia, for the crowd, also
was ended, did not have more history."
